I researched the Mason Dixon/Missing Link Audio Fillmore East platform, including the current manufacturer specifications, historical 44/45-watt FE documentation, the manufacturer’s cabinet and speaker design, and the Hammond transformer specifications. One important authentication distinction is worth preserving: the Hammond 290DX is a legitimate high-voltage tube-amp power transformer, but the published Mason Dixon documentation does not establish it as a universally specified factory transformer. Therefore, the certificate below identifies it as original to this inspected amplifier with no evidence of replacement, rather than making an unsupported claim that 290DX was the only factory specification.

The manufacturer documentation confirms the Fillmore platform is handwired/point-to-point, U.S.-built, Fillmore East-inspired, and offered in 44/45-watt versions, with selectable voicing and compatible 6L6/KT66-family power sections depending on model. (MLA Pedals) The manufacturer also specifically describes its hybrid JBL-style speaker as beginning with a Peavey Black Widow 4-inch-voice-coil platform, which makes the inspected Peavey speaker particularly relevant to authentication. AMPLIFIER IDENTIFICATION

Manufacturer: Mason Dixon Amplifiers / Missing Link Audio
Model: Fillmore Edition
Configuration: Piggyback Head & Extension Cabinet
Estimated Production Year: 2024
Country of Manufacture: United States
Power Class: Approximately 44–45 watts, consistent with the Fillmore Edition high-power platform

Chassis: Aluminum chassis construction consistent with the Mason Dixon Fillmore platform
Design Heritage: Fillmore East-inspired American boutique tube amplifier

Research Identification

The inspected amplifier is consistent with the Mason Dixon Fillmore Edition high-power platform produced by Missing Link Audio. Manufacturer documentation identifies the Fillmore East 44-watt series as a handwired, point-to-point amplifier using an aluminum chassis, with selectable voicing and a cathode-biased power section capable of accommodating multiple compatible power-tube types. The earlier 45-watt Fillmore Edition documentation likewise identifies a handwired 6L6-based platform with master volume and selectable contour/voicing functions.

The Fillmore Edition is specifically designed around the tonal characteristics associated with the Allman Brothers' Fillmore East-era equipment, incorporating design elements intended to reproduce both Duane Allman and Dickey Betts-inspired tonal characteristics.

IMPORTANT FACTORY / MODEL SPECIFICATIONS

The following specifications are supported by manufacturer and period documentation for the Mason Dixon Fillmore Edition family:

  • Handwired / point-to-point construction

  • U.S.-built

  • High-power FE platform: approximately 44–45 watts

  • Tube power amplifier

  • Cathode-biased power section on current FE 44 platform

  • Selectable Fillmore-style voicing

  • Master volume

  • Multiple compatible power-tube configurations depending upon FE model

  • 12AX7 / EF86-family preamp architecture on later 44-watt models

  • Available spring-reverb option

  • Baltic birch construction used in documented Mason Dixon cabinets

  • Standard IEC AC power connection

  • Designed around the Fillmore East tonal character of Duane Allman and Dickey Betts

Manufacturer documentation currently lists FE models in 10-, 15-, 22-, 44-, and 70-watt configurations, demonstrating that the Fillmore Edition designation covers a family of related hand-built amplifiers rather than a single fixed circuit. (MLA Pedals)

SPEAKER AUTHENTICATION

Manufacturer: Peavey
Model: Black Widow
Date Code: None Present / Not Legible
Condition: Excellent

Speaker Authentication Note

The Peavey Black Widow is particularly significant in relation to the Mason Dixon Fillmore platform.

Missing Link Audio documents its Fillmore hybrid speaker as beginning with a Peavey Black Widow platform utilizing a 4-inch voice coil, subsequently reconed with JBL D120 components to achieve the desired JBL-style response. (MLA Pedals)

The inspected speaker is therefore highly relevant to the documented Mason Dixon speaker architecture.

Important qualification: No date code was identified, and the inspection information supplied does not establish whether this specific Black Widow remains in its original Peavey configuration or has received a JBL-style recone. Accordingly, this certificate does not represent the speaker as a confirmed JBL hybrid unless the speaker's cone/recone construction is separately documented.

Authentication Finding:
PEAVEY BLACK WIDOW — CONSISTENT WITH DOCUMENTED MASON DIXON SPEAKER PLATFORM

CHASSIS AUTHENTICATION

TRANSFORMER AUTHENTICATION

Power Transformer

Manufacturer: Hammond Manufacturing
Part Number: 290DX
Status: Original to inspected amplifier
Condition: Excellent

The Hammond 290DX is a legitimate tube-guitar-amplifier power transformer. Hammond specifies it for 120V/60Hz operation with a 650V center-tapped high-voltage secondary, 50V bias supply, 6.3V heater supply, and 5V rectifier supply. Its rated outputs include approximately 230mA on the high-voltage winding, 4A on the 6.3V winding, and 3A on the 5V winding. (Hammond Mfg.)

Authentication Finding:
ORIGINAL TO INSPECTED AMPLIFIER — NO EVIDENCE OF REPLACEMENT

Authentication Qualification

The 290DX is a modern Hammond replacement/design transformer associated by Hammond with Fender/Bassman-family applications. Public Mason Dixon documentation does not establish the 290DX as the exclusive factory transformer specification for every Fillmore Edition production run. Therefore, this certificate recognizes the transformer as original to this inspected amplifier, based upon the inspection evidence supplied, without overstating the available factory documentation.

The inspected example represents a highly original, exceptionally well-preserved Mason Dixon Fillmore Edition amplifier and matching cabinet.

Its handwired construction, U.S. manufacture, Fillmore East design heritage, original cabinet construction, original covering and grille assembly, Peavey Black Widow speaker platform, original-to-unit Hammond transformers, original wiring and absence of identified modifications make it a particularly strong example for a modern boutique amplifier collection.

The Mason Dixon Fillmore Edition is historically significant within the boutique amplifier market because its design directly references the legendary Fillmore East-era tones associated with Duane Allman and Dickey Betts, while employing modern hand-built construction and serviceable tube-amplifier architecture. (MLA Pedals)

CERTIFICATION STATEMENT

I certify that the above findings represent the physical condition, originality and authentication assessment of the Mason Dixon Fillmore Edition amplifier and cabinet based upon the inspection evidence available at the time of examination.

This certificate is an authentication and originality assessment, not a representation that every individual component can be independently traced to a surviving factory build record.

Where factory documentation is unavailable for a specific component, Blue Note Music has intentionally distinguished between:

“Original to the inspected amplifier”

and

“Documented factory specification.”

This distinction is maintained to preserve the accuracy and integrity of the certification.
